With a vision to inspire and enlighten, Guerrilla Funk offers talented musicians who would otherwise not be given a chance, an opportunity to be heard. Think of Guerrilla Funk as the champion of improving social causes through music. There's no doubt that controversy and friction follow Guerrilla Funk, though that seems to be simply because a number of the label's artists are some of the most outspoken in the hip-hop community. The independent label was founded in 2003 by Paris, a San Francisco bay area native whose single "Break the Grip of Shame" was banned by MTV, and who experienced what he believed to be several years of hypocrisy-driven motives by the major record labels. For all the controversy, Guerrilla Funk Recordings brings mostly taboo subjects to the forefront with artists including Public Enemy, The Conscious Daughters, Kam, T-K.A.S.H., Truth Universal, Uno the Prophet, Hard Truth Soldiers, and the sultry sounds of Ms. Monét and Sandy Griffith. No matter how controversial, Guerrilla Funk Recordings is all about getting people to think, have a dialogue and take positive action to improve the world we live in.
